Physicians and Scribes

OUR VISION FOR PHYSICIANS

We strive to enable doctors to focus solely on their patients, practicing the medicine for which they were trained. Our scribes act as the physician’s personal assistant, taking on the burden of the doctor’s clerical duties. Your scribe will provide concurrent documentation of the patient encounter, help manage  your workflow, and track down ancillary medical records pertinent to the case at hand.

Who uses our scribes?

While originally and chiefly used by Emergency Physicians in the Emergency Department setting, medical scribes have proven to be of significant benefit to doctors practicing in wards and outpatient clinics as well. The benefits of medical scribes in high-volume areas are felt in all fields.

  • Thorough and accurate documentation reduces medicolegal risk
  • Greater adherence to CPSO charting standards
  • Charts are completed ahead of shift-end, allowing physician to leave on time
  • Minimizes physician’s clerical and administrative duties
  • Increased profitability through more precise capture of relevant billings
  • Fewer patient LWBS
  • Improved patient satisfaction
  • Increased physician job satisfaction

Emergency Physicians

In the Emergency Department, scribes provide direct support to their physician by helping to manage workflow, concurrently documenting cases, and taking over ancillary clerical duties, all with the aim of improving efficiency.  As the average number of patient visits to Canada’s EDs continues its steady rise, there is an ever-increasing demand on Emergency Physicians to handle more patients, faster. On top of this, as EMR systems begin to be implemented in departments across the country, concerns about a loss of productivity due to unwieldy programs are being realized. MSC provide a turnkey solution to these issues.

Inpatient Physicians

The benefits of medical scribes extend to physicians of all specialties, including those working in the wards. For inpatient physicians who find themselves encumbered with clerical duties and who have a drive to not only improve the efficiency of their delivery of care but its caliber as well, medical scribes are the answer. Through decreased times to admission and faster patient rounds, MSC medical scribes will facilitate the hospitalist to provide superior patient-centered care.

Outpatient Physicians

Amongst outpatient physicians, there is increasingly a sense of moving further from the role of doctor towards that of data entry clerk. Physicians working in outpatient clinics invariably spend hours at the office after their shifts in order to complete the medical documentation that has piled up throughout the day. MSC Medical Scribes are trained according to specialty and site-specific requirements to effectively manage EMR systems, manage patient workflow and provide real-time documentation of patient visits, allowing the physician to end their day on time and get home to their family.

Physician Testimonials

Dr. Bhaskar Gopalan

“On a personal level, I find the scribe program to be very useful because it’s enabled me to connect with the patient on a better level… Now with a scribe, what’s happening is I’m able to go into the room, make eye contact with the patient and have a conversation with them, all the while my scribe is doing the documentation and I’m gaining that individual connection with the patient… It’s brought back some of the joys of practicing emergency medicine, and that’s the real reason I use scribes.”

“Things move very rapidly when I have a scribe… [Because they’re handling my documentation}, to some extent it’s relaxing, but in another way, there’s a fair bit pressure because we do see more patients when I have a scribe, so I have to keep on my toes.

Dr. Rodney Breau

Surgical Oncologist

"I’ve been working with Medical Scribes of Canada for a few months in my cancer clinics. The use of a scribe significantly decreases the administrative burden of patient care. This translates into less time dictating after clinics and allows more time to teach trainees."

“I can say with enthusiasm that the advantage of having a scribe with me in my daily work is tremendous. It makes my charts both more readable and complete… For me, as a part-time physician, scribes will make my career slightly longer because I am enjoying the work so much.”
